Kaan Luum or a Paradise Tale in The Riviera Maya
Maya’s Wonderful Heritage Sees New Horizons in the Riviera Maya
The Riviera Maya. Kaan Luum. It sounds mystique. It sounds strange. It sounds uncommon. Yet, Kaan Luum is more than its Mayan name. It’s a majestic, heavenly gateway in Mexico’s Riviera Maya.
Kaan Luum is a lagoon located very close to the Quintana Roo’s state Tulum magical coastal village.
I certainly don’t know if these post lines can properly describe a fantastic and beautiful water body.
Located approximately 12 kilometers southwest of Tulum (7.45 miles) on the highway segment from Tulum to Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Kaan Luum isn’t just a typical attraction just by the sole fact that it’s a lagoon. It’s one of those places that have an extra-dimensional I-don’t-know-what gift.
However, if you want to visit the Quintana Roo state, my partners of jetradar.com can offer you the best airfares here; or if you’d like to get another opinion, my partners of chepoair.com have great rates here. Thank you very much for supporting me.
You can get here by several transportation means.
However, the Magno ideal recommendation is to establish your lodging point in the Tulum village for greater comfort.
This beautiful natural haven is generally open to visitors every day unless Tulum’s municipal authorities have decreed something else.
Luckily, most of the year’s time is available to visitors.
However, there’s something much more there than a paradisiacal nature water spot, lush nature, and some beautiful local songbird specimens that will please most demanding travelers’ eyes.
Here, you’ll find a symphony of almost divine elements that will leave indelible memories in your traveling souls’ canvasses.
Kaan Luum, which in the classic Mayan language means “La Tierra Amarilla” (The yellow land), is one of the many treasures that the biosphere reserve of “Sian Ka’an” treasures as a gift from the Maya gods.
As it usually happens with several Riviera Maya micro destinations, the access isn’t visibly indicated through big or luminous signs. You’ll only find simple, richly manually decorated wood planks, indicating the access to the site.
Once you made your way through lush mangrove plants, you’ll find a small path marked by a typically coastal rustic wooden boardwalk.
Quintana Roo is great, isn’t it? Let me suggest you rent a car to drive in Quintana Roo.
Why? Because it’s very convenient and taking advantage of the affordable rates that my partners of Discover Cars offer you here or Economy Bookings that you can get here, driving in Tulum and Quintana Roo will be trouble-free. Thank you very much for supporting me.
This alluring wooden boardwalk gives way at its end to an emerald green color lagoon little less than fascinating.
At the lagoon’s center, you’ll find a “Cenote,” a sinkhole in which your eyes will astonish by a celestial blue so beautiful that it really represents a heaven’s embassy right here at the ground.
In fact, in most of the lagoon’s edge area, it’s possible to walk quietly, since the water level doesn’t go beyond your knees height.
This fact doesn’t apply for the “Cenote,” whose depth already requires the usage of diving’s specialized equipment for all those who want to go deep into the Maya’s aquatic underground world.
With approximately 26 meters in diameter (28.43 yards) and 88 meters deep (288.71 feet), the sinkhole whose location at the Kaan Luum’s lagoon center can only see trained scuba-divers conquering it.
Those scuba-divers who have only mastered the art of deep diving can go deeper inside the cenote.
I certainly recommend bringing your clothing change, your swimming accessories, and what you wish to eat and drink for a Kaan Luum visit session.
Let me remind you that there are no shops or restaurants in the lagoon’s vicinity, nor the sophisticated amenities you’re accustomed to in large cities.
I also consider worth mentioning for you to carry bio-degradable or recycled materials little trash bags.
Any kind of bio-degradable disposable containers will also do fine.
The point is to take with you all the waste you generate since this paradise must remain intact for many years.
There are some “Palapas” (Typical kind of dried palm leaves Mexican gazebo offering tables and chairs) to place your belongings there in the lagoon surroundings.
Finally, the activities you can do in Kaan Luum lagoon are local flora and fauna contemplation, swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling in the lagoon’s shallow waters, and meditation sessions.
Walking, book-reading, photography, lying down for resting and relaxation will also round off a perfect Kaan Luum visit.
Now, what is the result of combining fantastic accommodation options at very affordable prices and awesome tours? Hostelworld and Musement.
Magno special recommendation. Appreciating in silence, Mother Nature’s celestial sounds and rain forest silence moments will surely sweeten your soul, and it will be a fantastic souvenir you can take from your visit too. Scandalous party guys won’t fit quite well here.
Second Magno recommendation.
Since the lagoon’s calcareous clay soil nature is fragile, when you move from the lagoon’s edges to the center, please avoid dragging your feet on the lagoon’s bottom soil and step in carefully.
This way, you’ll be helping to preserve this wonderful and superlative natural gem for hundreds of years to come. Thank you very much for your conservation spirit, my Magno followers.
The last one and I’m off. One more Magno recommendation.
There are no specialized medical services in the lagoon’s vicinity.
So, if any of you, my Magno friends, are on a medication regimen, please consider packing your prescribed necessary medicines.
There are no specialized pharmacies or convenience stores with all the cosmopolitan convenience amenities there.
Let’s remember that Kaan Luum is a natural area a little far away from those questionable conceptual places called “civilization” or “modern” cities.
